Triumph International keeps its doors shut on Philippines unions
Mr. Spiesshofer
Christmas time is family time. In Thailand and the Philippines Triumph has a “special christmas gift†for 3660 workers and their families: they were fired, lost their regular income and face an uncertain future, in which they don`t have sufficient money to send their children to school.
In its annual report Triumph announced that its Asian subsidiaries did well, notwithstanding the economic crisis. Meanwhile Triumph ordered massive layoffs in exactly those Thai and Philippine factories, where unions have been strongest and most successful in defending workers’ rights. In this process Triumph failed to truly engage in negotiations with the unions and therefore violated internationally recognised labour standards.
Mr. Spiesshofer, you as the CEO and owner of Triumph International have to take responsibility: unconditionally reinstate the workers and engage in direct negotiations with the unions!

Exodus of Christians in the Middle East
War torn, anarchic Iraq, however, is not the only place in the Middle East that will see fewer Christians celebrating this Christmas. The region that was Christianity’s birthplace is witnessing an unprecedented modern day exodus – victims of radical Islam, the global economic crisis, and new currents of sectarian feeling from both Arabs and Jews alike.
Pacific Conference of Churches: Where is New Zealand and Australia?
The Pacific Conference of Churches is a fellowship of 28 member churches and 9 national Councils of Churches in the Pacific region, representing approximately 85% of the region’s 8.2 million people. In Copenhagen today, we are witnessing the struggles of the oppressed, the vulnerable and the marginalised to be heard. For us the Pacific Islanders, the outcome of this Conference of Parties will impact the very survival and existence of some of our Pacific Island Countries.

2010 Sweatshop Hall of Shame
Ikea has been found to purchase bed linen from a factory where four workers died as a result of unsafe working conditions. The Sweatshop Hall of Shame 2010 highlights apparel and textile companies that use sweatshops in their global production. Hall of Shame inductees are responsible for evading fair labor standards and often are slow to respond or provide no response at all to any attempts by the International Labor Rights Forum (ILRF), workers, or others to improve working conditions.
