Volunteer opportunity
The Welfare Rights Unit (WRU) is a community legal centre located in Collingwood that provides free telephone advice service for people in Victoria with questions about their rights under the social security system and social security law.
The advice service operates Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9.30 am and 12.30 pm. The phones are staffed by paid and unpaid workers trained in social security law.
The WRU is currently seeking volunteers to assist in providing telephone advice. Volunteers would be asked to participate in a training program and then commit to one morning a week to assist on our advice line.
You would need to be available for:
1. One morning of introductory training on Monday 24 August 9am-12pm
2. Two trial mornings on weekdays
Then, if you would like to continue as a volunteer:
3. Four days of training in social security law, dates are
Monday 14, 21 and 28 September, and Monday 12 October
4. After the training, one regular weekday morning per week or per fortnight to work on our advice line
Anyone who is interested or wants more information should contact the Volunteer Coordinator Claire Carroll on 9416 1409 or claire [at] wru.org.au
