Fair Trade and Mothers Day: good news story

Western Heights Uniting Church, Geelong found a very creative way to use their Mother’s Day cards with one group of people in their congregation!  Bec Wilson, the Youth & Children’s Worker made up small gift bags for each of the Mothers in their playgroups, which contained some fair-trade milk & dark chocolate; some hot chocolate; and a tea bag – to wish them a happy Mothers Day!   Attached to the bag were the Mother’s Day cards and Bec’s hope was that people who received them would fill the cards out and send them off.   Cards were also distributed by another Church member to other members of the Church, particularly a small group of young teenagers (small study group).  The study group members sent them off to Micah Challenge once they were completed.

Bec commented that it was a great chance to introduce both the Mothers Day campaign as well as introduce Fair Trade to this group of people in the congregation, and is excited that since doing this activity the playgroup has decided to become a Fair Trade community.
